The are lots of features. The best ones are:

Hwdy!

Last weekend, I had been with friends to a place called Stockyard at Fortworth Texas. Once upon a time (I guess it was in early 1920's), this place was ranked first in Mule and Horse trading market. This place reflects the true essence of Wild-west, the cowboy's lifestyle.

I was nice to witness the 19th century western lifestyle (esp cowboys)... people dressed as cowboys, the gun shooting road show, a ride on the 1896 Steam Engine train, Cowboys Hall of fame museum, the taste of Buffalo wings, the BIG TEXAS BOSS BURGER (yummy, yummy...),the human maze and lastly my favourite: a ride on the mechanical bull. For the record, I managed to cling on to this bull for about 41 secs :) here is the video...

I could have held on to the bull for somemore time, if I had not had the groin pain, the calf muscle cramp or the burise in the ankle :):) :)

Unfortunately we missed the real Rodeo, the west-wild show,the night pubs: the real essence of cowboys life.

We are planning to visit this place again. May be this time we'll be spending the entire night enjoying this amizing atmosphere.

Aircraft Phootshoot at Alliance Airport

Few days ago, I got a golden opportunity to be part of Aircraft Photoshoot team. We had been to Alliance airport, Fortworth, TX for the photoshoot. We went to one of the hangars and had a great time for the whole day.

It was an amazing experience for me to touch an aircraft(G200), to sit at the co-pilot's seat and to have a look at all the controls, panels and other stuffs. I am really grateful to my Supervisor Rob Rhoades for providing me this opportunity.

My Trip to Irving, Dallas, TX - 01

Sometimes it's nice to be away from home for a while! :) I have come to Dallas to receive training on development of Courseware products! It is basically to create training materials for Pilot Ground Schools. My company, CAE, has sponsored this travel and would be for a period of 3 months.

I had reached Dallas on 8th June and it has been almost 2 weeks now! It's totally a new experience and exciting too. My colleagues are well experienced in aviation domain (minimum of 15 yrs)and are surprisingly helpful and friendly (contrary to what I have heard from others).

I believe, I'll have a great time here. I'll keep this entry updated soon.

In the meantime, some photos from last weekend trip to Dallas, Downtown. :)

Ah! finally "Mera number aagaya" :) I am moving out of Mentorware(current employer) by this month-end!

I am joining a company called CAE as Sr.Multimedia Developer. The company is into Civil/Military aviation simulation and modelling technologies. I'll be joining the Bangalore operations with the Course-ware team [integrated training solutions for Aviation].

I am looking forward to work with CAE as it would provide me an opportunity/exposure to explore the Video aspect of Multimedia :)

The Number One Rule of Being a Good Employee

The Article:

When we are assigned with a task, we are usually expected to:

1. Provide an estimation of how long it will take to finish the task
2. Go ahead and start working on it
3. Report problems and issues preventing the work from being done
4. Finish the task and report the result

Generally, the boss only cares about the estimation, the progress, the problems, and the result - in most cases (e.g. except from the period in which we are coached on a new work or position) he does not care how we are going to do that nor does he wants to be a problem checker of the result. Unfortunately, some people that I know really have problem with this when they assume that their bosses need to pay close attention to how they are doing their work and scrutinize their outputs to make sure nothing is done incorrectly and tell them whether there are things which should be adjusted. The boss is not supposed to do that.

I remember one time when an analyst sent me a technical spreadsheet which was supposed to be sent to the client. After a quick look at a few numbers in the summary tab to make sure that they did not look ridiculous (outside acceptable ranges), I forwarded the document to the client. A few days later, I received a many complaints from the client about the quality of that document which presented many inaccurate information and the fact that they expected a much better work than that. But that was not the worst thing of the day, what the analyst later told me really knocked me on the face “I thought you would review it and tell me if it had problems, and I thought you would not send them the document if it was not good enough”.

What he actually said was that he expected me to scrutinize the details of his document in order to tell him any single problem with it. That should never be the expectation and it was my fault for not making this point clear up-front with the team members. I told him that although I, as his manager, was supposed to assist him in resolving any problem he had when doing his work, he needed to tell me about the problems first because I was not supposed to figure out the problems for him, that he must be solely responsible for the quality of his work product and if he sent me the result without telling me about any of its problems, my assumption would be that the document came up with all the expectations he were communicated with when being assigned with the task, and if it was not, he was not doing his job well.

So, what is the first rule of being a good employee? Be autonomous, i.e. independent, self-directed and self-managed. Except from the period in which one is coached to learn about the new job or position, he is expected to be autonomous at all time. He is expected to do whatever he has to do in order to accomplish a task well, including seeking for help, escalating issues, and not relying on others to help him examine his work and telling him what goes wrong with it. Autonomous employees do not waste their bosses’ time, yet never silently produce a pile of crap. And bosses like autonomous employees.

Blog Skin Trail

Inspired by Prakaz's "Torn Papers" skin, I tried my hands on customizing my blog skin.

I don't posses much knowledge about CSS. Just tried changing the colors, the rounded edges to flatter ones and customized the icons.

Started of with the CMYK Color model. Probably will use this opportunity as a good learning ground and will come up with a better skin :) :)

Friends Call me Mowgli, Kattan, Olle Magu, Bala etc.... Parents call me " Balu".... just a trivia.. as per academic Records.. "I am Balakrishnan Kaliyaperumal"....

Born and brought up in a heaven by name "Pondicherry, India"... (for that matter, Everyone's birthplace is a Heaven").. Can't describe in words when I think of my Childhood days at My village.... My village the best place I have ever been.... everything from the sparrows to the lake, to gulli kriket... goli - to kabbadi. .etc.... u know .. eveything is fresh in my mind....

Me working as a Developer - Multimedia at B'lore, India.... Although I am into Multimedia, I can proclaim, I am an Engineer (which I don't do...).. b'coz I finished my B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics.... My inclination,passion towards arts and the FATE playing its part... I landed in this field.. Quite happy now...

just thot I wld continue... again in the same content.. I am really not gud at framing sentences... so if u happen read this piece please bear with me....

As of now.. I can split my Life into 4 phases....
1. Childhood
2. School days
3. College Days
4. Professional life

I know this is the same mundane classifications.... but cldn't help it...

Childhood days the really carefree days.. nothing to worry abt... its all about having fun with friends, pets. .games.... play ... play n play.. nothin to worry... I really long for those carefree days.... I wanted to do all those mischievous acts.. like breaking the curd pots in my village, igniting the huge heap of Starw for fun.... chasing dogs,butterflies,sparrows around... driving the Palm Vechile (Pananga Vandi)... Single tyre vhecile.. the Train with friends along a string..... and many more.... those small quarrels I put up with my Bro and cousins... lots more... its just innocent heaven at that time..... I just love to be bac to my 6th year of life..

The 2nd phase.. School is life is wht I treasure the most.... put up in a boarding school (Hostel) at the tender age of 7... it was really a new environment to me... took atelast a year to get accustomed to it... lots of sorrow creeped as I was away from parents love and my village... but slowly got used to it.... I never regret for the 10 years of my boarding life... I really got to learn lot of things from there... The military kinda discipline... everyday prayers.... the limited meals... study hours... strict warden.... the mornin jog and Kho-Kho.. the best game I have played in my life.. probably I was little professional in that game... despite of some many gud things around, I was rude, solid unmoved by emotions... had an attitude of Big-bro.. I had friend and foes (not exactly.. may be at that age it was that way) in equal numbers... Indrajith, Madhavan, Manisha, Diana,Leena,Ashok, Dinesh, Nabi, Chandru, Lawerence, Mathew, Kamoor, Vicky, Prabhu... my unforgetable frenz...

Until my 10th class... I was rude and rustic... its Manisha.. who showed the other side of me.. quite weird but thats true.. she identified and showed the soft person in me.. she is one who actually threw a light on all the qualities of mine... which I wasn't aware of... I can proudly say she's my first friend who's a girl... she'll be my friend forever.... no matter what happens... newaz will continue other things later....
